Nyumba ya Sanaa (Nyerere Cultural Centre)

Physical address At the top end of Ohio Street next to the Mövenpick Royal Palm
Dar es Salaam
Description
The "House of Arts", also known as the Nyerere Cultural Centre, is a unique handicrafts venue in which artists, most of them young, create and sell their work. Their output is generally of high quality and includes jewellery, textiles, pottery and ceramics, etchings, paintings, and the inevitable Makonde woodcarvings. Rather somnolent these days, you can still try your hand at painting, drawing, batik and etching. Traditional dances are performed most Fridays at 7.30pm, and there's a small bar and a modest restaurant where you can have lunch.

Shops: Mon– Fri 8am–8pm and Sat & Sun 8am–4pm;
Workshops Mon– Fri 8am–3pm
Entrance is free
