About Viva Eco Africa

Viva Eco Africa is the first online responsible travel guide that is solely dedicated to promoting ecotourism in Africa by listing eco friendly businesses in the industry.

Throughout our many trips, we often found ourselves disappointed with the lack of ecotourism information provided by travel guides and information centres.

We decided to start Viva Eco Africa so that travellers can get all the information needed to plan their eco trip to Africa through one source.

Through Viva Eco Africa, travellers can search for eco friendly accommodation, eco friendly activities, as well as get information about a region’s natural environment, ethical eating and shopping, and where to experience local culture.

We believe that sustainable tourism is the key to protecting the environment, local cultures and traditions.

By supporting ecotourism, travellers help to support local communities who in turn reap benefits such as employment opportunities, better quality of life and minimal impact to their environment.

We hope that as this site grows in content and use, ecotourism venues will become easier to find and select. We also hope this site will encourage more accommodation venues to become more eco friendly in their own way.

We are a young couple with an adventurous and free willing spirit. We have travelled, lived and worked in many different countries including South Africa, USA, New Zealand, Brazil, Chile, Argentina and Tonga.

These travelling experiences provided us with many different cultural and enriching experiences. We have seen many different cities, cultures and peoples, and we have been privileged enough to see and experience some of the most amazing nature in the world.

The combination of our travels has shown us how important responsible travel is. It also gave us insight and knowledge of the ecotourism industry and its vast potential for growth throughout the world. Whether you are going for a hike in the bush, visiting a tribal village, or even just sightseeing historical places in the city, the smaller your footprint, the better it is for the locals and for the environment.

We believe that Viva Eco Africa can serve as a very informative guide to eco travellers that want to visit Africa and know consciously that their choices of where to stay, what activities they will do, or even where they choose to shop will be ethical ones.
